Welcome to the first She Sharp newsletter of 2023! What a start to 2023! I hope you and your families are safe and well following the destruction Cyclone Gabrielle brought across the country over the last week. Our thoughts go out to all of those who have been impacted.

We have many exciting events and opportunities planned for the year, and we can’t wait to share them with you. The year kicks off with International Women’s Day on Tuesday, 8 March. We are thrilled to host an event sponsored by Countdown that celebrates the achievements of women in technology and promotes gender equality. Events like these are an essential way to connect with our community and create meaningful change.

This year our focus is outreach and expansion, and as you have probably seen in our social media posts, we are looking for volunteers to join She Sharp in 2023. As a volunteer, you'll have the opportunity to work with a purpose-driven organisation and be part of a community dedicated to creating a more equitable future for everyone. She Sharp & Countdown: International Women's Day Breakfast Celebration:

Join us on the morning of March 8th 2023 for a special breakfast event celebrating International Women's Day in collaboration with Countdown. We will be gathering at 4 Williamson Avenue, Grey Lynn from 7:30 am to 9:00 am to connect, share stories, and discuss ways to empower women in technology.

Our International Women's Day event will bring together women from various backgrounds to share stories, insights, and ideas over a delicious breakfast. This event is not only a celebration of women's achievements, but it is also an opportunity to discuss ways to close the gender gap in tech and empower women in the industry.

Update on She Sharp

Kiwibots VRC Vex STEM Expo 2023:

Over the past weekend, She Sharp representatives attended the Kiwibots VRC Vex STEM Expo. It was a fantastic event that allowed us to connect with like-minded individuals, while interacting with children, and was a great way to kick-off the year.

We had a great time at the expo and want to thank everyone who stopped by our booth to learn more about our work.

This She# Bytes Episode is a conversation with Laura Bell Main, CEO and Founder of SafeStack [https://safestack.io/].

SafeStack is a community centric, people focused, online training platform for cybersecurity education. Laura is also the co-author of Security for Everyone - low cost approaches to digital security for yourself and your growing business.

During this episode, we learn that ‘Humans are Jerks’... now hear me out. When something has value, there will always be someone, somewhere who will want to take or harm that thing. Our job is to remember that while ‘nothing good goes into a sausage’, we still need to embrace the sausage and find a way to enjoy it.
