From standing alongside fearless young leaders at The Girl Empowerment Conference, to engaging with global innovators at the China Business Summit, this month has been all about witnessing and contributing to change that matters.

At TGEC, I was reminded of the power of youth-led spaces - where Year 13 women tackled business challenges, shared openly about identity and imposter syndrome, and showed us what leadership looks like when courage meets community. Their vision left me hopeful and deeply proud.

Later in Auckland, the China Business Summit offered a chance to learn about China’s rapidly evolving AI landscape and to reflect on the unique opportunities for collaboration between New Zealand’s agile innovators and China’s global-scale technology leaders. The conversations were thought-provoking and underscored the importance of partnership in shaping our shared future.

This month also marked a milestone for Aotearoa: the launch of our first national AI Strategy. It’s a bold step forward, ensuring businesses can harness AI safely and effectively to drive productivity and impact. Being part of these pivotal conversations reaffirmed how crucial it is to pair vision with action.

And now, I’m looking ahead with excitement as She Sharp and AUT prepare to host the 2025 AI Hackathon in August. With only five years left to achieve the SDGs - and most targets off track - bringing together diverse minds to design real-world AI solutions feels both urgent and inspiring.

July has reminded me that progress is not just about policy or technology - it’s about people stepping up, connecting, and daring to lead. And the best part? This journey is only just beginning.
